A New Infrastructure Project Designed to Support the Salinas Valley Agriculture Industry:
Pre-cooling, Cold Storage, Renewable Energy, Automation
Opening for the 2026 Season
We are building the most technologically-advanced Pre-Cooling and Cold Storage facility in the nation.
GIC Salinas Campus will be the only facility of its kind to leverage renewable energy, automation, intelligent temperature monitoring, solar-lined shade bay, and enhanced truck flow. Our design will ensure that the cold chain is never broken, prioritizing food safety, extending shelf life, and significantly improving product quality.
Five Steps from Seed to Table
Pre-cooling, cold storage and shipping with refrigerated trucks is an Essential Step in the process of delivering fresh produce from seed to table.

history
Our History Dates Back 85 Years…
Since 1936 we have been the pioneer in the pre-cooling and cold storage industry.
From the first wagonload of lettuce in 1916 until today, the Salad Bowl of the World has been the Major Producer of fresh produce consumed around the country and the world.
Our 28-acre pre-cooling and cooler campus has been
a major fixture in Monterey County.
Our Facility
GIC Salinas Campus will be the only facility of its kind to leverage renewable energy, automation, intelligent temperature monitoring, solar-lined shade bay, and enhanced truck flow.
Project Details
- Located in Salinas, CA right off Highway 101
- 357,000 SF temperature-controlled building including 125,000 SF of cold storage and a 199,000 SF processing facility including office space, raw product space, and cooler for processing
- 500,000+ SF of solar PV-lined shade bay protecting incoming product from the elements
- 500+ POV spots and 50 long-haul truck parking stalls
- On-site microgrid system with solar, cogeneration and battery backup
- Food and beverage venues
- Designing for throughput volume of 66M units and 340 million pounds of raw product per annum – an increase of over 2x existing conditions
Advantages Over Existing Facilities…
GIC Salinas Campus will be the only facility of its kind to leverage renewable energy, automation, intelligent temperature monitoring, solar-lined shade bay, and enhanced truck flow.

Renewable Energy
GIC Salinas Campus will utilize solar, cogeneration, battery, and microgrid systems to drive down costs and greatly reduce our carbon footprint.

Automation
Our facility will incorporate the latest technology in racking, material handling, temperature monitoring and control, and robotics to eliminate mistakes and improve produce handling.

Solar Shade Bay
A state-of-the-art shade bay lined with solar PV will cover the Pre-Cooling Yard, ensuring that produce unloaded from field trucks will remain at the optimal temperature to maximize shelf life.

Enhanced Truck Flow
Our redesigned truck flow will streamline operations and allow our tenants to quickly and efficiently pre-cool and cool their product, boosting throughput to 130 million units per season.
